20-09-2020 The summer of 2020 does not seem to be coming to an end. What wonderful warm days we still have at the end of September. The coming week it will remain very sunny and warm. Many gardeners still enjoy the lovely sun in their (fruit) garden every day. The question often arises when should I actually plant that fruit tree? Actually, the answer to that is very simple. A fruit tree that you purchase from Eigenfruit.nl is pot-grown and can be planted all year round. Because these trees are pot grown, all the roots of the tree remain intact and it will continue to grow directly in the ground!
Can you then plant every tree in the fall? In principle you can. However, it is not recommended to plant a frost-sensitive plant in the autumn. The Rouge de Bordeaux fig tree is a sun-frost-sensitive specimen. A young planted specimen is more likely to be damaged by frost.
Also, do not plant a fruit tree when the ground is frozen or frost. The low temperatures can damage the roots. You can also not plant the plant properly. The soil will then consist of hard blocks and will not fit well around the roots. This can dry out the root or cause the tree to become skewed. However, this will not happen quickly in the autumn.
Make sure the plants get enough water. It may be almost October, but we haven’t had much rain yet and the tree hasn’t had a chance to take root yet.
If you observe these points, planting in the fall is possible! The plant can then even make extra roots before winter and already attach itself to the soil. This guarantees success in the following year!
